The American dream is shattered in face of increasing crime rates in the East Coast. According to the FBI, in this part of the United States there is an approximately 8% increase in reported homicides cases and almost one and a half increase in rape crimes.
Here is one noticeable example:
Baltimore, Maryland with a population of 640,000 residents had 223 homicide crimes in 2010. In the same year the number of crime incidents reaches almost 9,500. The rate of violent assaults is one of the highest in all of the United States.
So what are the causes of these surge in crime that characterizes large areas across the USA?
We can come up with a few explanations:
1) The deteriorating economy and increasing rates of unemployment push people towards crime. Many people lose hope in face of a grim economic future.
2) Rise in the number of illegal immigrants that live in the margins of society has its toll on public safety
3) Lack of adequate budgets for stricter police presence and enforcement on the streets.
Whatever the reason is, something must be done fast, otherwise the USA will become an unsafe place to live in.
